What Happens if You Do Nothing?
Maybe you’re thinking that your minor dental problem is so small that you can simply ignore it…what’s the worst that can happen? Unfortunately, most dental problems only tend to grow over time. Untreated cavities lead to lost teeth, lost teeth lead to gum disease, and gum disease often leads to even more tooth loss. Cracked and fractured teeth can also become major sources of pain, but all of this can be avoided simply by coming to see the helpful team here at Sedalia Dental.
If you have a damaged tooth, a beautiful and effective method of protecting the remaining tooth structure is a porcelain crown. It will simply fit over the remaining natural structure, and it will be shaped to bring back the tooth’s original appearance and function. In the end, the crown will seamlessly blend into the smile, and only you and your dentist will know that it’s not real!
Though certainly not always true in other areas of life, in the case of tooth-colored fillings, what looks the best actually is the best treatment choice. Instead of dark gray amalgam, these fillings are made of a composite resin material that comes in several natural shades. That means we can color-match the restoration to any patient’s enamel, helping it be practically invisible within the mouth. Even better, the resin actually bonds directly to tooth structure unlike amalgam, enabling us to place smaller and more conservative fillings that better preserve a tooth’s natural strength.
CEREC® One-Visit Restorations
In the past, getting a tooth repaired with a dental crown used to be quite time consuming. You’d need to attend at least two appointments to the dentist’s office and spend about a week waiting in between with a temporary restoration. Fortunately, we’re now able to drastically speed up the process without compromising on quality. With CEREC, we can design, fabricate, and mill a completely custom-made dental crown in just one easy appointment, helping patients get what they need and back to their lives as quickly as possible.
