For a majority of our patients, we're able to make ceramic crowns in office on the same day using our CEREC technology.

What is a dental bridge?

Why do I need a crown or bridge?

A crown is needed to protect a tooth that is weakened by decay, fracture, or a large filling. A bridge is necessary when one or more teeth are missing and you want to restore your smile, chewing ability, and prevent other teeth from shifting.

How long do crowns and bridges last?

Longevity depends on oral hygiene, diet, and visiting us every 6 months for your dental visits. With proper care, crowns and bridges can last between 10 to 15 years or longer. Without proper care at home and regular visits to our office, crowns and bridges can fail quickly (within as little as 6-12 months) due to recurrent decay.

What materials are used for crowns and bridges?

Common materials include porcelain fused to metal (PFM), all-ceramic (e.g., zirconia), and all-metal (e.g., gold). Our office primarily utilizes all-ceramic crowns with our CEREC same-day milling technology.

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, so you should not feel pain during the process. Some discomfort might occur afterward, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

How many visits are required for a crown and bridge?

Generally, it takes one to two visits. With our CEREC technology, we are able to complete the full procedure within one visit, depending on a few factors. However, if you do need to come back, rest assured, getting you your permanent crown or bridge is our highest priority.

Yes, modern crowns and bridges are designed to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth, providing a natural appearance.

Can I eat normally after getting a crown and bridge?

After the final restoration is in place, you can eat normally. However, it’s advisable to avoid very hard or sticky foods, especially immediately after the procedure.

Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist regularly. Special flossing techniques or tools may be recommended to clean around the bridge.

It is extremely difficult to give an estimate of cost for these services without a proper examination. The cost varies depending on materials, location, and insurance coverage.

Without a crown, a damaged tooth may fracture, or decay may continue to progress, leading to more extensive treatment like a root canal or extraction. Missing teeth not replaced with a bridge can cause shifting of other teeth, bite problems, and bone loss.

Alternatives to crowns include fillings and veneers, depending on the extent of decay or fracture, however, if our office has recommended a crown, these options have most likely been ruled out by our dentist. For missing teeth, alternatives to bridges include dental implants and partial dentures.

Minor chips or damage can sometimes be repaired. However, in many cases, the crown or bridge may need to be replaced, especially if the damage affects its function.

Initially, you might notice a slight difference in your speech, but most patients adapt quickly, and normal speech returns as you get used to the new dental work.

I have had a crown or bridge completed, but I am still experiencing pain. What should I do?

It's normal to experience some discomfort or sensitivity after a crown or bridge procedure as your mouth adjusts. This usually subsides within a few days. However, if the pain persists or is severe, it’s important to contact your dentist. We can assess the situation and ensure everything is healing properly, or make any necessary adjustments to the restoration.

Can I be allergic to the materials used in a crown or bridge?

The ceramic crowns we make in our office are some of the most biocompatible materials available, however, allergies to dental materials are rare but possible. If you have a history of metal allergies, please make sure to inform us.
