Tooth extractions
in Groveport, OH.
Nobody looks forward to having a tooth removed, and we know the idea can feel daunting, especially with wisdom teeth. At Sedalia Dental in Groveport, our whole approach is built around making the visit calm and comfortable. We explain what is happening before we start, we numb the area thoroughly, and we make sure you feel ready rather than rushed.
When it is needed
Our goal is always to save your natural teeth, so an extraction is the last option rather than the first. A tooth may need to come out when decay or a crack is too severe to repair, when advanced gum disease has loosened it, or when a wisdom tooth is impacted or causing pain. Sometimes teeth are removed to make room for orthodontic treatment. We will tell you exactly why we are recommending it and what your other options are.
Wisdom teeth
Wisdom teeth usually arrive when there is no room left for them. They can come in crooked, stay trapped under the gums, collect food, and cause pain, swelling, or damage to the teeth beside them. We use low radiation digital images, and cone beam 3D scans when the situation calls for it, to see exactly where your wisdom teeth sit before we recommend anything.
A calm, informed visit
Before your procedure we walk you through each step, answer your questions, and send you home with instructions to help you prepare. We numb the area thoroughly so you stay comfortable, and our comfort menu with a cozy blanket, aromatherapy, and streaming TV helps the time pass. Afterward, rest for the remainder of the day, skip straws and smoking so the site stays protected, and stick to soft foods for a few days. If you feel nervous at any point, say so. We would rather take extra time than rush you.
Replacing the tooth
A gap changes how you chew, and over time the neighboring teeth drift into it. If the tooth needs replacing we can talk through a dental implant, a bridge, a partial denture, or a complete denture, and we would rather have that conversation before the extraction so you leave with a plan. If a tooth is painful, broken, or infected, do not wait it out. We keep same or next day emergency appointments open.
